Have I Mentioned Honey?

First thing to be stocked in my homestead medicine chest?  Honey.  I have found NOTHING better for healing cuts and scrapes.  It's great for warding off colds and other germs too, and around here we just can't afford to get sick.  Find a local beekeeper (and I hope someday soon that will be me), and buy some local, raw honey.  It'll work wonders on your allergies, too.  Raw honey is the closest thing that I have found to a cure-all.

I sliced through my thumbnail with a t-post: honey.
Grace cut her hand open with a dirty catfood can lid: honey.
Hubby sliced his hand open moving some metal sheeting: honey.

Using honey on a wound may sound strange to you if you have never tried it.  It works so much better than store bought creams, gels, lotions and ointments, I'll never use anything else.

Of course the caveat is if you are allergic to honey, please don't try wound care with it.  Also, don't use honey for children under one year old.

The Healing Power of Honey

“Raw honey is exceptionally effective internally against bacteria and parasites.
Plus, raw honey contains natural antibiotics, which help kill microbes directly.
Raw
honey, when applied topically, speeds the healing
of tissues damaged by infection and/or trauma. It contains vitamins, minerals
and enzymes, as well as sugars, all of which aid in the healing of wounds.”
