write a blog post about them. So, I am.
We have been very egg-cited, because a few of our hens have gone broody,
and are sharing a nest of about thirty eggs. One chicken, that we think was the
first one to be broody on that nest, is my sister's chicken. Her name is
Isabella, and I think she is the sweetest little hen we have. My sister's job
is to gather all the eggs every day, but there was this one particular nest that
she couldn't get the eggs from because Isabella was always sitting on them. The
reason why we have Caroline, my little sister, go get the eggs late in the day
is because the hens have usually gotten off of their nest by then to go to
sleep. But this time, that chicken was on there every time Caroline went in
there.
So, we figured that we would let them hatch some babies, but the broody house
wasn't done. This little chicken didn't seem to care one bit! It seems she
hired an assistant so she could get a break once in a while. Assistant chicken
does not have a name yet, and since she's a Buff Orpington (unlike Isabella,
who's a Barred Rock...) I'll call her Orpie :D . Anyway, I noticed that
Isabella would take turns with Orpie, sitting on the eggs. And I was out in the
coop today, and noticed Isabella making a fuss over something, and when she
stood up, I saw something behind her. When Bella walked away, It was Orpie,
who plopped her happy little self on the eggs and started rearranging the eggs.
They should hatch in about 16 days, and I'm sure either me or Mom will write
about that.
Thank you for reading, and like I said in the last post, I would be very
happy to read what you have to say, so please comment!
